Having been a parent for 8 years through adoption, I have found that holidays are always a hassle with the kids. The older boys, now 16 and 17, know the routine for a holiday after these 8 years, pack, travel to airport, pass suitcases, security then plane to destination. 8 year old son of only a year isn't quite there with it yet.
We had to change our travel arrangements for him, travelling to the airport by car. Hubby received free train travel through his work, so this is quite an issue for us, given the cost of transport and parking when you get to the airport.
For 4 weeks before the holiday we have been taking him through this next ten days, and so far all has been good; except:
Security - fascinated with the X-ray machines and willing them to bleep so he had the chance to speak to the security officer, something you would never catch us doing!
Take off - oops.... Only his fourth flight and he has never been on a 747 before. We forgot how much noise they make and how much they shake on take off!
Overnight flight - again oops..... All that on board entertainment is reason for all three to try and stay awake as long as possible! Resulting in....
Tiredness - well, it affects us all, but imagine out of routine and tiredness with time change and lack of medication because of time change....
Jet lag - not something the generally affects us... Sadly it did little man last night at half past midnight when we were aware of a Nintendo DS being played on! 3 hours later and a hot chocolate he was fast asleep again, although we were now wide awake! Sadly he was not for waking up this morning!
How do you cope wit it all? Mojitos generally!
