Fostering & Adoption - across the world

So... I have a really exciting opportunity, after years of wondering about this. Oldest travels to his summer job in the US in June, and he has asked me to accompany him until he is collected to go to the camp. This is great news, as I still feel needed as well as there being some level of attachment still there, but it is simply as a travelling companion.

   

Talking to the hubby we realised that I don't just want to go and come back, so I will be spending a few days in the US alone. The world is smaller these days, mainly due to the internet.... twitter, online travel booking etc etc, and throughout my fostering and adoption life I have always wondered about how different it really is in other parts of the world, and given the travelling we do to America, I have always had lots of questions about fostering and adoption in America.  

Speaking to my buddy Al I wondered if I could do what I have always wanted to.... sit and chat to other adopters in another part of the world about the differences and similarities in adoption from their perspective.  So in June I will be embarking on a short trip to America to drop the boy and then go off on a little fact finding trip of my own.... who knows where it might lead me.... 

I'm quite excited about it and quite nervous at the same time.... but I can't wait to bring it all home and edit it into maybe a YouTube video, a few podcasts, some blogs.... and of course to find out the real facts of fostering and adoption in America.

Do I need help? Yes...! Sadly, if you want to come you'll have to pay your own fair and hotels!!! In seriousness though, I do need foster careers and adopters to talk to when I am there.... so if you know of any living in America who has experience of fostering and adoption, please send them my way! I'd even like to talk to social workers about the differences in their working lives.
